Why LED

The lamps behind conventional traps
are being withdrawn from the market.

The EU mercury-lamp ban has been in force since 2023, and mercury-free hygiene is now a standard supplier requirement. Premium LED is the compliant replacement.

The Problem

Conventional traps cost more than the invoice shows.

Three technologies still hold most of the market. Each one carries a cost that appears later — in replacement cycles, in downtime, or in an audit.

01

Black-Lamp (UV Fluorescent) Traps

Built around mercury tubes and fragile glass, which is a contamination risk anywhere food is handled. UV output falls away long before the lamp fails, so attraction drops while the unit still looks like it is working.

Mercury · Short life · Fragile glass
02

Low-Grade LED Traps

An LED label guarantees nothing on its own. Budget chips sit at the wrong wavelength and run under-powered, so insects are barely drawn in and brightness fades within months — none of the service life an LED should deliver.

Weak attraction · Fast decay
03

Electric Zappers (Kill Grids)

Electrocution does not contain an insect. It disperses bacteria, viruses and allergenic particles into the surrounding air. Research from Kansas State University advises against their use in food-handling areas, hospitals and childcare facilities.

The shift is now the law

Mercury lighting is being
phased out worldwide.

Through 2023 the EU withdrew its exemptions for mercury fluorescent lamps — T5, T8 and compact types — under the RoHS Directive, in line with the global Minamata Convention. Black-lamp traps run on the very lamps being removed from supply.

Mercury-free, energy-efficient equipment is no longer a preference. It is written into procurement and ESG criteria at most global buyers, and LED is the only option that satisfies all of it.

The Innotech Advantage

Premium LED, engineered
the way it should be.

Exceptional Lifespan

0-hour rated LED life against roughly 2,000 hours for fluorescent. One lamp change, not a dozen.

Premium Korean LEDs

Dual wavelengths tuned to the target species, for stronger, more selective attraction that holds its output across the service life.

Food-Safe by Design

Mercury-free and ozone-free glue-board capture. Nothing is scattered and nothing is released, so the units suit food, healthcare and childcare sites.

Total Cost of Ownership

One lamp, not a dozen.

Fluorescent lamp changes
over three years
  • High power consumption
  • Repeat maintenance and labor
  • Hazardous mercury disposal
Innotech LED lamp
